Pivot Iron Reading Sconce

The Pivot Iron Reading Sconce from Solae Design is built for the space beside a bed, a reading chair or a desk, where a fixed downlight is always slightly in the wrong place. The arm extends and folds back against the wall, and the head rotates, so the beam can be pointed at a page one minute and washed up the wall the next.

Iron construction keeps the arm rigid, so it stays where you put it instead of drifting under its own weight. The finish is offered in matte black or warm gold: black disappears against darker paint and panelling, gold picks up brass hardware and warmer palettes. Two switching arrangements are available, one wired to a wall switch for a fully built-in installation and one with a button switch on the fixture itself, which is the more practical choice at bedside where you want to turn it off without getting up.

Warm Light and TRIAC warm-dimming versions are offered, the latter dimming toward a deeper amber as you lower it, which is easier on the eyes late at night. Folded flat it projects only a few inches, freeing up the nightstand entirely. Hardwired installation should be completed by a qualified electrician in line with local codes.
