Ondine Pleated Bloom Pendant

The Ondine Pleated Bloom Pendant from Solae Design builds its shade from several layers of finely pleated white fabric, set at staggered heights so the edges break outward like petals. Gold hardware sits above the layers and stays visible at the top of the fixture, providing the one hard line in an otherwise soft form. The whole thing reads as movement held still.

Fabric is doing the diffusing here. Light passes through multiple pleated layers before it reaches the room, which removes the edge entirely — there is no visible source and no sharp shadow beneath it. The pleating catches light unevenly across its folds, so the shade itself reads as textured rather than flat when lit. Four diameters are offered, from a modest 11.8″ through to a 23.6″ form substantial enough to anchor a dining table on its own.

The smaller sizes suit a bedside or a hallway; the two larger ones are intended as a single statement over a table or in a stairwell where the layers can be seen from below and from the side. Fabric shades collect dust over time and should be cleaned with a low-suction vacuum brush attachment rather than a damp cloth, which will mark the pleats. Hardwired installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician following local codes.
