Nikau Walnut Wall Sconce

The Nikau palm, Rhopalostylis sapida, puts out its female flowers singly and its male flowers in pairs. The Nikau Walnut Wall Sconce borrows that structure without making a fuss about it, arriving as either a single-head sconce or a twin. It is a small piece of natural history rendered in lathe-turned walnut, hand-finished antique brass and hand-dyed fabric, and it honours the quiet end of the natural world rather than the showy end.

The walnut body is turned one piece at a time, so the grain reads slightly differently on every lamp. Antique brass hardware is hand-finished with an aged patina that continues to deepen in place. The cone-form diffuser is hand-dyed bouclé in three earthy colourways drawn from dusk, dawn and rise: a warm cream Natural White, an olive Forest Green, and a burnt sienna Terracotta Red that warms any wall it lands on.

Choose a single head at fifteen centimetres wide for a bedside or a narrow corridor, or a double at thirty-four centimetres for a wider, softer wash across a living room wall. Both are hardwired and dimmable with a suitable bulb. Replacement shades and hardware components are available separately, so a single damaged diffuser never means replacing the entire sconce.
