The Feather Form LED Wall Clock from Solae Design shapes its body into a feather rather than a disc, which is a harder thing to do well than it sounds. The vanes have to keep enough continuous structure to carry a movement and a light channel, so the piece is built from metal for the spine and resin for the detail — one for strength, the other for the fine work along the edges.

An integrated LED runs warm at 3000K and lights the form from within, so the outline glows rather than the wall behind it being washed. The effect is closer to a lit sculpture than to a lamp: enough light to mark a hallway or soften a bedroom at night, not enough to read by, and no bright source visible from any angle in the room. The larger version stands over two and a half feet tall, so allow clear wall above and below it.

A silent quartz movement drives the hands with no tick. Power is USB rechargeable rather than mains or disposable batteries, so the clock charges periodically and then runs with no cable attached to the wall — which is what makes a piece this shape hangable anywhere.
