The Compact Clock Wall Light from Solae Design is deliberately small. It covers roughly thirty-two to fifty-four square feet, which is not a room’s main light and is not meant to be — it is the fixture for a bedside, a landing, a short corridor or the wall beside a door, where a full sconce would be too much and nothing at all would be too little.

A clock is built into the body, so one fixing does two jobs on walls that rarely have room for two. The finish pairs black and gold, and the shade is offered round or square: the round version softens a corridor, the square one squares up against door frames and picture edges in a more formal room. Being small, it works in pairs or in a run down a corridor as readily as it does on its own.

The body is painted metal with a plastic shade, and the LED light source is integrated and included, so there is no bulb to source and nothing to replace. Best for bedrooms, hallways, dining areas, studies, foyers and hotel rooms — anywhere a small amount of light and a visible clock are both wanted from a single point on the wall.
