The Caged Glass Carriage Lantern borrows the shape of an old coaching light and cleans it up. A tapered metal cage holds a glass cylinder, with the frame lines doing the decorative work rather than any applied ornament. It suits a porch, a covered entry or a garden wall where a flat modern box would look out of place against brick, stone or painted weatherboard.

Two frame finishes set the tone. Black is the crisper of the pair and reads well against pale render and painted timber. Antique has a warmer, aged depth that settles into stone, brick and older properties without looking new. The glass is offered clear, which gives a sharp filament-style sparkle, or in a water pattern that scatters the light and softens the shadow it throws across the wall.

The fixture is a single 14.6 inch size, which is the useful middle ground for a domestic entrance — substantial enough to balance a front door, small enough not to dominate a porch. The body is sealed to IP65 and rated for full outdoor exposure, so it can sit unprotected on a garden wall as readily as under a covered porch. Warm light keeps the effect welcoming after dark.
