Bolla Opal Glass & Resin Table Lamp

The Bolla Opal Glass & Resin Table Lamp from Solae Design is a two-part object: a rough-cast resin body with a visible, unpolished surface, topped by a smooth opal glass globe. The contrast between the two finishes is the whole idea — one absorbs light, the other releases it. The design first appeared as part of the First Hand collection at ICFF in 2018 and has stayed in production since.

The resin body is cast rather than moulded smooth, so the texture varies across each piece and catches shadow at low angles in a way a polished surface cannot. Above it, the opal glass globe carries a G9 source and glows evenly rather than showing a hotspot. Several body colours are offered, from neutral white and terra cotta through to green and pink, which changes the character of the lamp considerably while the glass stays constant throughout.

Small enough for a nightstand or a desk, and it works well grouped in twos and threes in different colourways across a shelf or sideboard. The cast surface will hold dust within its texture, so a soft dry brush is more effective than a cloth and avoids pushing grit further in. Ships plug-in with an inline switch in four regional plug types, so no electrician is needed.
