Description
The Bloom Ceramic Petal Sconce from Solae Design treats a wall the way a still life treats a table. Individually formed ceramic petals are mounted on slim gold stems and arranged so each one catches light differently, giving the piece depth and shadow even during the day when the fixture is switched off.
Ceramic is the reason it works. Unlike glass it does not glare, and unlike metal it does not go cold; light passing across the glazed surface picks up the subtle thickness variations in each petal and softens as it spreads. Six configurations are offered across four, six and eight heads, in both horizontal and vertical arrangements. The horizontal versions suit the wall above a sofa, a sideboard or a headboard, while the vertical ones work in a stairwell, a narrow hallway or either side of a tall mirror where floor space is scarce.
This is a decorative statement fixture rather than a primary light source, so it is best layered with ambient or task lighting in the same room. Each petal is finished by hand and slight variation in glaze and form is characteristic of the material. Hardwired installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician following local codes. Dust the petals gently with a soft dry brush or cloth.
