Wicken Handwoven Rattan Tray

The Wicken Handwoven Rattan Tray from Solae Design is a shallow round tray woven by hand from rattan, with a low upstand at the rim and a wooden handle fixed across the top. Being handwoven, the weave tightens and loosens slightly around the circumference, so no two trays are identical and the variation is part of what you are buying.

The low profile is what separates a tray from a basket. Everything placed on it stays visible and reachable, so it works as a way of grouping objects on an open surface rather than hiding them away: candles and a book on a coffee table, jars and a small plant on a dresser, or cups carried in from another room. The handle makes it genuinely portable rather than decorative only.

Suited to a coffee table, a bedside, a dresser, or a bathroom counter. Dust with a dry brush, working with the weave rather than across it. Wipe spills promptly with a barely damp cloth and dry at once — rattan will swell and lift if it stays wet. Keep it out of prolonged direct sun, which dries and embrittles the fibres. The rattan is not a food-safe surface, so serve on a plate or cloth rather than directly on the weave.
