Torva Walnut & Brass Dome Sconce

The Torva Walnut & Brass Dome Sconce from Solae Design pairs a shallow turned walnut dome with a brass backplate and stem. It is a small fixture by design — the deeper of the two sizes projects just over six inches from the wall — intended to sit close and light a specific spot rather than fill a room. The scale makes it easy to use in numbers without crowding a wall.

Walnut is the visible material. The dome is turned from solid stock and finished to show the grain, which warms the light as it reflects off the inner face; brass supplies the structure and the contrast. Because the shade is opaque, light is thrown downward in a defined wash rather than spread outward, making it well suited to reading positions and to walls where glare would otherwise be a problem for anyone sitting nearby.

Works either side of a bed, along a hallway at intervals, or above a reading chair. Two sizes are offered, differing only slightly in diameter and depth, so they can be mixed on a single wall without looking mismatched. Dust the wood with a soft dry cloth and avoid solvents and standing moisture, which will lift the finish over time. Hardwired installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician following local codes.
