Nagare Mulberry Paper Floor Lamp

The Nagare Mulberry Paper Floor Lamp from Solae Design carries forward one of the most enduring lighting ideas of the twentieth century: paper stretched over a wire frame, lit from within, standing on the floor like a column of light. Handmade mulberry paper does all the optical work here, and the internal frame stays deliberately invisible from every angle.

Because the entire surface emits rather than a single point, the light has no glare and casts almost no hard shadow. It fills a corner rather than spotlighting it, which is why paper lanterns still work in rooms that defeat conventional floor lamps. Four heights are offered, from a 47.2 inch form that sits beside a low chair to a 74.8 inch column that holds a full room corner on its own without help.

The white paper reads almost architectural during the day and turns amber-warm at night. Suited to a living room corner, a bedroom, a hallway end, or beside a low seating group. Each shade is made by hand and slight variation in the paper ribbing and seam is characteristic. Dust with a soft dry brush only; the paper should never be dampened or wiped with cloth. Bulbs should be low-heat LED types, which suit the enclosed paper shade best.
