Frosted glass removes filament glare entirely, producing a soft, even ambient light that suits a bedside or a reading corner far better than a clear shade would. It takes a standard E26 or E27 lamp, so replacements are easy to find anywhere. Fit a dimmable bulb and an in-line dimmer to take it down for evening use.
