The Nimbus Wood-Grain Globe Flush Mount from Solae Design sits close to the ceiling and reads as a shallow disc with a white glass sphere held at its centre. The outer face is matte and plain; the inner face carries a hydrographic wood-grain finish that only becomes visible once the fixture is lit and viewed from below, which keeps the fitting quiet when it is switched off.

That inner surface does the work. Light from the glass globe reflects off the wood grain before it reaches the room, which warms the tone and softens the edge of the pool it casts. From directly underneath, the effect is a lit ring around a brighter centre. At 8.7″ across and 5.1″ deep it is small enough for a hallway, an entry, or a modest bedroom where a pendant would hang too low to walk under comfortably.

Offered in black with walnut grain or white with a lighter wood grain, so it can either contrast with a ceiling or disappear into it. Hydrographic finishes are printed onto the surface and should not be scrubbed — dust with a soft dry cloth only, and avoid solvents entirely.
