Cascading Alabaster Cube Chandelier

The Cascading Alabaster Cube Chandelier from Solae Design hangs honed alabaster cubes at staggered heights from a brushed brass canopy. The cube is an unusual choice for stone lighting, and it is the right one here: flat faces catch light differently from curved ones, so each block reads as a solid geometric object rather than dissolving into a soft glow.

Every cube measures 6.7 inches across and 7.5 inches tall, cut from natural stone with its own delicate veining. Light passes through the walls of the form and picks up that figuring from the inside, which is what separates real alabaster from a moulded substitute. Each takes a standard E26 or E27 lamp.

Nine configurations run from two heads at 59 inches of drop up to twenty-one heads at 236.2 inches, so this scales from a modest stair to an atrium. It is a commissioned-feeling centrepiece for a double-height entryway, a grand staircase or a formal dining table. Confirm ceiling height and structural support before ordering the larger sizes. All of the mounting hardware is included, and a licensed electrician should carry out the hardwired ceiling installation given the considerable combined weight of the stone at the larger head counts.
