The Meridian Marble Counterweight Floor Lamp from Solae Design resolves a tall room the way a plumb line resolves a wall, as one clean vertical drawn from ceiling height down to the floor. Conical metal shades sit at even intervals along a slim gold-and-black stem, each throwing its own pool of warm light rather than one flat undifferentiated wash.

The counterweight is genuine marble and it does real work. Its mass anchors the slender column so the lamp stands without a wide, obtrusive base, and a pull cable lets you raise or lower the height to suit the room, whether that is over a low sofa, beside a reading chair, or rising into a double-height stairwell. Four configurations are offered, from a single light up to four.

Best positioned where its full height can be read: an open living room, a landing, or a corner with vertical breathing room above it. The marble is natural stone and each base carries its own veining and tone. Wipe the metal with a soft dry cloth and avoid solvents on the stone. Hardwired components should be fitted by a qualified electrician following local codes. The pull cable is accessible from standing height once the lamp is in position.
