Antique Brass & Marble Wall Sconce

The Antique Brass & Marble Wall Sconce from Solae Design is two materials and no distractions. A slender antique brass body rises from a round backplate and meets a marble shade that softens the light into something quiet and diffuse. There is no glass, no trim and no visible fixing, which puts all the visual weight on the stone and on the finish of the metal.

Depth is the practical advantage here. At 13.4 inches tall but only 3.1 inches deep, it stays clear of shoulders in a narrow hallway and clear of a headboard at a bedside, where a projecting fixture quickly becomes a daily nuisance. The 5.9 inch backplate covers a standard single-gang box cleanly, so it retrofits into existing wiring without patching or making good afterwards.

Because the marble is cut from natural stone, no two shades carry the same figuring. Hang a pair and they will complement rather than match, which is part of the appeal of working with real stone. Use it as a bedside reading light, as rhythm along a corridor, or as a single accent above a console table. Finished in antique brass with a white marble shade and a standard candelabra socket.
