Cairn Alabaster & Brass Sconce

The Cairn Alabaster & Brass Sconce from Solae Design is composed as a vertical stack of four shapes: a circular antique brass backplate, a polished brass orb, a darker marble sphere, and a hand-cut alabaster bell suspended below them all. Read top to bottom, it behaves less like a fixture and more like a small balanced cairn set against the wall.

Alabaster is the working material. It is translucent enough to transmit light but dense enough to hold it, so the bell glows from within with a warm, low-glare light rather than projecting a beam into the room. The brass and marble above stay unlit and provide the visual weight that keeps the composition from floating. Three sizes are offered, from a compact 12.2 inch to a 15.4 inch form with deeper projection.

Well suited to flanking a bathroom mirror, sitting either side of a bed, or running along a hallway as a repeated rhythm. Alabaster is a natural stone and each bell carries its own veining and translucency. Dust with a soft dry cloth and avoid acidic cleaners. Hardwired installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician following local codes. Mounted as a pair either side of a mirror, the two bells will differ slightly in tone.
