Comtesse Fringed Acrylic Sconce

The Comtesse Fringed Acrylic Sconce from Solae Design studies the tassel, the passementerie detail usually reserved for curtains and upholstery, and rebuilds it as a light fixture. A weft of fine faux-horsehair fringe hangs from a metal collar above a soft white acrylic shade, so the piece reads as textile well before it reads as hardware.

Where most sconces hide their fittings, this one makes the join the point. The acrylic shade diffuses the light into an even, shadowless glow while the fringe above catches it in fine vertical lines, giving the wall texture and movement that a flat backplate never manages. Three finishes are offered, antique gold, nickel and black, which shift the piece from decorative to graphic depending on the room around it.

Well suited to either side of a bed, a dressing area, or a hallway that needs a rhythm of repeated fixtures. The fringe is a textile component and should be brushed downward gently with a soft dry brush; never wet it or attempt to comb it. Hardwired installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician following local codes. Fringe length settles downward over the first few weeks after hanging, which is normal for a natural-drape textile trim.
