Calla Alabaster Dome Sconce

The Calla Alabaster Dome Sconce from Solae Design holds a small hand-cut alabaster dome against a metal backplate. It is a deliberately minor fixture — 6.5″ tall and projecting under four inches — designed to be used in numbers rather than as a single feature on an empty wall. Its restraint is the reason it repeats well.

Alabaster is the working material. Translucent enough to pass light and dense enough to hold it, the dome glows from within with a soft, low-glare warmth rather than casting a beam onto anything. Because the fixture sits so close to the wall, most of what you see is the lit stone itself and very little light reaches the floor. The stone is quarried, so each dome carries its own veining and its own pattern of brighter areas when lit.

Best used repeated — along a hallway at regular intervals, either side of a mirror, or in a pair flanking a bed where a reading light is not the priority. Two finishes are offered, brass and dark bronze, both against white alabaster. Dust with a soft dry cloth and avoid acidic cleaners, which etch stone permanently. Hardwired installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician following local codes.
