Gatsby Opal Globe Sconce

The Gatsby Opal Globe Sconce from Solae Design borrows its proportions from 1920s hotel lobbies and pares them back for a modern wall. A stepped metal backplate carries a single rounded opal glass shade, and the whole fixture projects barely five inches, close enough to the wall to sit behind an open door or beside a narrow mirror without getting in the way.

Choose gold or chrome hardware, paired with white or beige glass. Gold with beige is the warmer of the four combinations and flatters period interiors; chrome with white is cleaner and sits comfortably in a contemporary bathroom. Mounted in pairs either side of a mirror it works as vanity lighting, and set at bedside height it replaces a table lamp without giving up any surface space on the nightstand. A single unit above a hallway console adds light exactly where a ceiling fixture would otherwise cast a shadow.

Each shade is hand-finished, so slight variation between pieces is expected rather than a fault. It takes a standard E27 bulb, which lets you set the colour temperature yourself and swap it out later.
